The capability to avoid other air traffic is a fundamental component of the layered conflict management system ensure safe and efficient operations. evaluation systems designed mitigate risk midair collisions manned aircraft based on large-scale modeling simulation efforts quantitative volume defined as near collision. Six-degree-of-freedom rigid point mass simulations are routinely employed by standards developing organizations when designing these systems. Because difficult observe in inherently rare events, basing evaluations enables more robust statistical analysis. However, collision its underlying assumptions for assessing close encounters with do not adequately consider different characteristics smaller drone encounters. primary contribution this paper criterion use simulating two or drones sufficiently proximity that might reasonably occur without any mitigations reduce likelihood criteria assume historically motivated upper bound likelihood.
